Wilgus State Park

The Wilgus State Park is located on the Connecticut River in Vermont and it was created in 1933 by Colonel and Mrs. William Wilgus.

This park was originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. and it was first designed with a picnic area featuring fireplaces, picnic tables and the ranger’s quarters.

It was in 1960 when the Wilgus State Park was expanded and it’s been quite popular among canoeists due to its privilege location to the Connecticut River.

Green Mountain Flyer Special Excursion: Lobster Bake Train

On June 25th, 2009, everybody will have the chance to experiment one of the most interesting train rides. The event known as Green Mountain Flyer Special Excursion will take you on a journey back in time.

The Bellows Falls Union State will take everybody to the day when train travel was the only long distance option. The train was built in 1950 and the structure of it still serves both the Green Mountain Railroad and Amtrak.

You’ll be shown through to the waiting room and the ticket office used back in 1940′s, which are still in use today, then shown to your seat for this great family excursion.

Vermont Symphony Orchestra

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Summer Festival Tour on June 26th, 2009 in Ludlow, VT.

The event is “in celebration of Lake Champlain’s Quadricentennial, the VSO presents a salute to Uncle Sam—Vermont’s own Uncle Sam, that is, Samuel de Champlain, who discovered our bordering-on-great lake in 1609.”

The Summer Festival Tour is presented by Okemo Mountain Resort “The Lake Effect” and it is conducted by Anthony Princiotti.

23rd Annual Sheep Shearing Weekend

Billing Farm & Museum celebrates its 23rd Annual Sheep Shearing Weekend on May 23rd and 24th, 2009 starting at 10am. This is an interesting event for kids to learn more about Vermont’s rural heritage and its role in the real world.

It is that time of the year in which at Billing Farm & Museum sheep are being sheared and this is a great opportunity for kids and parents to spend a great Memorial Day Weekend learning about this process.

There will be different activities during Memorial Day Weekend for children such as an art show, the process of making maple ice cream and historic games.

18th Annual Covered Bridges Half Marathon

The 18th Annual Covered Bridges Half Marathon will be held at Pomfret, Woodstock and Quechee, Vermont on June 7th, 2009.

This marathon will have a 13.1 mile course and it will start at Suicide Six Ski Area in Pomfret. It will go across the bridges to finish at the Quechee Polo Field: Meadow and Middle Covered Bridges in Woodstock.

6th Annual Jamaica Fiber Festival

The 6th Annual Jamaica Fiber Festival is an ideal opportunity for kids to learn about fiber, fiber animals and fun creative things you can do with wool and plant fibers.

The Jamaica Village is located in southern Vermont near Stratton Mountain and the event will be held on May 16th, 2009 from 10am to 4pm along Main Street.

There will be activities for children such as yarn craft, knitting and you can also see how sheep are sheared. Spinning and weaving demonstrations will also be given.
