February

6th: Seventh Annual Collegiate A Cappella at the Latchis - Brattleboro, VT
This perennially sold-out event showcases seven great collegiate a cappella groups. The a cappella groups come from New England and New York and include the Boston College Heightsmen, Dartmouth Aires, Ithaca Voicestream, Tufts Beelzebubs, UNH Noteables, UVM Cat's Meow, and Wesleyan Spirits. Each group includes an alumnus/a of one of the high schools in the Brattleboro area.

13-14th: 86th Annual Harris Hill Ski Jump - Brattleboro, VT
Harris Hill Ski Jump of Brattlebro, Vermont is the only 90 meter ski jump in New England! The weekend-long event will feature the Pepsi Challenge, the Fred Harris Memorial Tournament and the (NEW!) SuperTour final competitions. This is a United States Ski Association (USSA) sanctioned event, where the world's best ski jumpers will be hosted.

13-21st: February Sleigh Ride Week at Billings Farm - Woodstock, VT
Horse-drawn sleigh rides through frosty farm fields, visit farm and restored farm house, farm programs and activities. This popular winter event features horse-drawn sleigh rides, sledding with jack jumpers, and interactive programs. In honor of President's Day, make a presidential silhouette and be sure to sample favorite cookies of the presidents!

1st: Domino Toppling III - Brattleboro, VT
The Perrucci Brothers of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, return to Brattleboro to build, then topple, an original domino course made up of tens of thousands of handmade dominoes. Last year's course covered the floor of our Main Gallery, this year's will be even bigger and better, with plenty of new stunts and clever art references. Correctly guess how many dominoes are set up and you could start the entire chain reaction!

6th: Grafton Nature Museum's "Snowshoe Trek to Mollie Beattie State Park and Historic Howeville"- Grafton, VT
10am - 12pm. Join our naturalist-led exploration for late winter wildlife signs as we explore the New England Landscape. Depending on weather conditions, we will either hike or snowshoe through a diversity of habitats. Bring snack and water. Wear waterproof boots and dress for the weather. 27th: Wilderness First Aid Course - North Charlestown, NH
Be prepared for time in the outdoors. Fast-paced and hands-on, this two-day course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for people who travel, work, and play in the outdoors. The course is pre-approved by the American Camping Association, US Forest Service, and other government agencies. Can be used for wilderness medicine recertification by those with previous training. 27-28th: Maple Leaf Quilters Festival of Quilts - Rutland, VT
The 25th Festival of Quilts is a well recognized show presenting the talents of local and Vermont quilters. Included are antique and contemporary quilts representing many different styles and techniques. There will be vendors of quilting related products, special exhibits, demonstrations and a Tea room. New this year is a "Consignment Boutique" selling quilts, quilted gift items and quilt related items.

8th: Teddy Roosevelt: Mind, Body and Spirit - Springfield, VT
Theodore Roosevelt was a formidable achiever. His titles include soldier, author, naturalist, historian, statesman, Nobel Prize-winner and twenty-sixth President of the United States (the nation's first cowboy President). This one-person performance by Ted Zalewski emphasizes the forces that shaped Teddy's personality and leadership style. Most of the show uses Teddy Roosevelt's own words. The presentation is followed by a presidential receiving line.

10th: 19th Annual Intergalactic Cardboard Sled Race - Mount Sunapee, NH
You can choose to participate or hang back and observe one of the craziest days on the slopes as teams compete to build the most imaginative and sturdy sleds - and then race them down the mountain! Awards ceremony follows at Goosefeathers pub, with discounts on Harpoon drafts and prizes.

1-2nd: Farm Festival at Billings Farm & Museum
Celebrate the start of Billings Farm & Museum's 28th season! Entire weekend of traditional spring farm activities, including the annual shearing of the Southdown flock. Farmers from the region will match plowing skills in the fields with their teams of draft animals: oxen on Saturday, draft horses on Sunday. Visitor plowing with the Billings' teams and our first-ever visitor-plowing competition. Horse-drawn wagon rides.

29-30th: The 18th Annual Vermont Craft Council Open Studio Weekend - Statewide
One of Vermont's premier arts events, on Open Studio Weekend artists and craftspeople around Vermont open their studios for the sale and demonstration of their work. Visitors use the Vermont Studio Tour Map to target and direct themselves to the studios of their choosing. These could be downtown storefronts or at the end of winding dirt roads, but visiting an artist's studio is always informative and exciting.

6th: The 19th Annual Covered Bridges Half Marathon - Pomfret, Woodstock, Quechee, VT
This 13.1 mile course starts at the Suicide Six Ski Area in Pomfret and passes or crosses the following covered bridges as the race winds to its conclusion at the Quechee Polo Field: Meadow and Middle Covered Bridges in Woodstock, the Taftsville Covered Bridge and Quechee Covered Bridge.

10-13th: The 11th Annual Roots on the River Festival - Bellows Falls, VT
